Just to clarify, Yes if the new drive is in the same computer. No if you try to restore the image to a different computer, this version will not do that.

I did come across a newer thread at Wilders (it may be too new) 2007 version and the file name changed (I'm still looking for the earlier version though), but this one is named "SnapAPI_l_s_e.zip" instead of "SnapAPI_s_e.exe" that I'm wanting (to try it out as a test on V7 and V8 ATI on older hardware).

Anyway, when you read the Wilders 2007 thread, there is a link to the newer, different named file at Acronis. I would post the file link here, but direct links are frowned upon (Forum Rules) to zipped and executable files as it doesn't give readers a chance to read up on what they are getting. The link at Wilders works very well though. ;)

Ok, got it downloaded, installed, boot CD made, etc. Now for my gripe.

I LOVE this program, have used it religiously, but one aspect in 7 I used quite a bit was Disk Clone - this is GONE in this version. Don't like that, even the boot CD doesn't have it on there. It's a really handy tool for imaging drives that are close to failing (but still accessible). I've made many a person happy with that feature, and may need to roll back again to 7 for that reason alone.

I like version 8. Works great.

Not sure about this free version, should be the same.

I've used version 8.0.0.937's boot CD on several Vista machines and back upped and restored with no problems at all. So it does work with Vista. I've never installed it on Vista though, so maybe that will not work.

Maybe I'm not doing it right. I created my first image last night. Now I'm creating what I thought was an incremental image and it's taking over 30 minutes for the process to complete. I haven't installed any new programs. All I did was edit the registry and delete some files. Why is it taking so long?

Also I discovered that there's apparently a bug in TI8 which causes browsing over the network to fail on systems which have TI8 installed. To fix the problem you have to edit the registry and set the IRPStackSize to decimal 18 on each computer with network shares that has TI8 installed.

don't bother with secure zone. Install Acronis on all 3 comps and create separate, first time, backups to your external drive. From then on you can schedule them regularly using incremental backups. You need just one restore disk

Follow the directions, register, get the 1st email, Confirm the email by clicking the link in it (or paste into browser then click go), now you will get a 2nd email with your serial number. Next start to login to your account but use the Acronis True Image US site instead of the UK site.

I didn't see a password either but I believe it was because I was already a registered user in their system from the time I had received the free TI 7 using the same email address.

Most people do not realize that when you use add/remove you do not actually remove all of the program-you leave behind unwanted file associations, fragments and registry changes that can cause problems. Its much better when you install a new update, program that you watch how it works for a few days and if things start acting funny you re-write your partition to get rid of it completely, also you don't have to spend hours in forums trying to predict how a particular update will work for you-just try it!

Its absolutely critical you image with the new install problems occurring with XPSP3 and Vista updates. I love XPSP3-have it on 4 computers but people are getting the dreaded blue screen, if they had an Acronis image before they installed it they could have simply booted from the boot disc and restored exactly the previous OS.

Odd that some are having difficulty with this.
Process worked fine for me , used Gmail for e-mail and Opera for browser.

Pretty much instantly approved here, as soon as I clicked the confirmation link, gmail received notification mail to visit registered programs page and download link.

Thanks to both of you now i have 7.0, 8.0 and version 9.

Registered they sent me and email with a link clicked on it,then they send you another email with your key and then logged into my Acronis account and downloaded version 8.0 from within "List of your registered products" and i was done.
