tenmachan123 : If you will try Internet connection sharing for your computer and xbox, there's no need to use the router. If your computer is wireless, then connect it to a wireless network. After connecting it to a wireless network, connect the xbox to the ethernet port of your computer then enable the Internet connection sharing on the computer. After enabling the ICS on the computer, check the IP address of the xbox, it should have an IP address of 192.168.0.xxx. Check also if you will have Gateway and DNS servers.

tubbynet : This can be done if your router supports dd-wrt. Using this 3rd-party firmware, you can set up your router to not act as a router, but a wireless bridge.

I would check out »www.dd-wrt.com and see if your router is supported. If it is, flash it and look at the FAQ/Wiki to get this up and running.
I have successfully used this to provide wired access to several linux PCs that didn't support wireless and were geographically remote from my wired switch.

q.
--
"Don't hate the media, BECOME the media..." ~Jello Biafra

weaseled386 : Yeah, this isn't going to work at all. My suggestion is to return the router.

Your router isn't going to have a WAN signal to feed to the Xbox. Past that, it's probably trying to act as a DHCP server and conflicting with the router upstairs which is already setup for DHCP.

I've never tried this but it sounds good... setup internet connection sharing on your laptop. Connect your Xbox & laptop together and see what happens. If you have any firewalls I'd kill them first. Then you can turn them back on, along with antivirus, after you establish it works or not.
