| Apple TV , HDMI and lack of digital sound
I have 2 Apple TV's that are not getting along with my new Sharp LCD TV. Users, of Samsungs seem to have this complaint as well. When I use HDMI to connect to the Apple TV the picture is great but sound seems to be a no go. Now this does not happen on my older LCD but I'd figure I'd ask if anyone encountered this and if they ever resolve it...
Btw, Apple as of April/08 has been telling Samsung users to use the component video output with the left right sound connected as well until they figure this minor inconvenience out.

| Yes, gotta get me some optical cable to check it out... still HDMI should work. Its getting tiring running into all these little "oopsies" just about in every Apple product line these days... not enough to make me give up but enough to annoy.

Just wondering. some folks reported issues with PS3's but that seemed to have been a while ago.... like I said Apple acknowledges the HDMI port has issues with Samsungs no real complaints from Sharp users found. My PS3 works find with the TV same HDMI ports.

You aren't running your AppleTV through a receive I am guessing? |

| the idea was to run all HDMI through the TV and via single digital out on TV get to the receiver. Worked very well with old TV.. a little disappointed about this issue.

Run everything through the receiver and then single output to TV. |

| reply to macaholic Hmm...come to think, my LG has some issues 'seeing' the HDMI signal at first. I haven't tried different cables (because the bastards are expensive!), but I'd always assumed it was a cable problem before it was a TV/Apple TV issue. (Mind you, I bought the expensive gold/silver HDMI cable...) So, who knows! I find it appalling that there would be any issues with a connection standard that's supposed to be vastly superior to the old RCA cables. |

| reply to macaholic I have a Samsung LCD with an Xbox 360, and the HDMI works fine, except that the TV doesn't recognize it when switching inputs unless the Xbox 360 is powered on. If it isn't powered on, the TV will skip right past that input. It doesn't do that for anything else, though. |
