I am on Verizon FIOS northeast and Actiontec MI424wr. I can switch WAN from PPPoE to DHCP inside the router at will. Which setting should I want and why? |

@gannett.com | What does it take for Verizon to switch me to DHCP? It is my understanding that performance will be better with DHCP instead of PPPoE. |

Your speed tests should show you getting the speeds you signed up for. If you're not, that's another story and has nothing to do with being on PPPoE or on DHCP. |

I'm guessing you don't have TV. |

| reply to luciano you are indeed limited to the setup in your Central Office. the easiest way to know what you are is to select one and see if you lose connection. you don't have a choice so whatever is currently working is the wan connection type you are stuck with. |

I'm guessing you don't have TV. Not the OP, but I have a PPoE setup with TV. Internet was installed July 2005, TV April 2007. There is no technical reason that you can't have TV with PPoE that I am aware of.
As you said, depends on the equipment at the CO which way to set-up the router. -- REMEMBER: Stupidity should be painful !! |

@verizon.net | reply to luciano all new installs now are dhcp. and whether or not you have tv doesn't have a bearing whatsoever.
the actiontecs auto-detect whether the connection is pppoe or dhcp. |
