Not the OP, but I have a PPoE setup with TV. Internet was installed July 2005, TV April 2007. There is no technical reason that you can't have TV with PPoE that I am aware of.

As you said, depends on the equipment at the CO which way to set-up the router.

There is no noticeable performance difference between the two. Your speed tests should show you getting the speeds you signed up for.
