The problem with Vonage and other Voip providers

is that they dont support there product, if you have a problem and you call all they do is tell you its your ISP. I would only get a Voip product if they also provided the internet as well then you know that you at least have a chance to get the problem resolved.

i wouldnt say that it solves the problem but i might help it hopefully. As for Ptrowski he is bitter because he does his own wiring in his home and has problems with his cable comp., leave the wiring to someone that knows how to do it then you might not hate your cable comp as much K pal get over it...

Some of the best wiring from Cable companies I've experienced: leaving orange wire strung across the yard for months and the ever popular cable running through the heat vents.

Best to limit the cable companies access to wire as much as possible!

Nope, that's not it. The drop to my house is 2 years old as is all the internal wiring that was done by an electrician.

I would say it is that you are a Comcast guy.

I guess it all depends on the person that is doing the work at your home i have had nothing but good experiences same for the people i know that have had cable work done. that kind of stuff your talking about should not happen and happens to other companies as well i have heard similar stories about verizon leaving temporary lines above ground for a long time and doing some shaddy wiring they did it at my house.

No band wagon here in regards to you. I think the relationship goes beyond that for you.

for Comcast, sure. They deserve everything and more thrown at them.

Back on topic, a good many people find VoIP to be less problamatic from a quality point of view when they move from cable to DSl. I noticed it myself.

really? i know plenty of people that have voip with a cable connection and have no problems so i guess i cant agree with you on that. Care to explain why they notice that the quality is better with DSL then a cable connection.

I never said that people all have issues with a cable connections. Some do, some don't. Historically it seems that DSL is a bit more "stable" per say and is not affected as much by over sold nodes, bandwidth hogs, etc. I never have the "peak hour" issues that I did with cable. When I made the switch, the quality of my calls increased and the issues I had decreased. That seems to happen for many people also. My speed tests are always consistent, low ping, latency, and my MOS scores are almost always in 4.3-4.4.

VoIP worked fine on my cable connection, but not as well as it does on my DSL conncetion.

"VoIP worked fine on my cable connection, but not as well as it does on my DSL connection." That sounds like a contradiction to me???

Oh yea, you're right: it does depend on who's doing the work. But sometimes you just have to laugh at some of the things that happen.

Wide Open West has been pretty good and I'm pretty happy with them, even though the cable was run through the heat vent. Funny thing is that I didn't even know until I replaced my floors. I had to laugh.

Hardly. It worked. It could be used, but there were ropped calls, echo, one sided audio, especially during peak hours when people would get home, hop on the net, etc.

With DSL a very large portion of those issues went away. I used VoIP with two different providers for 2 years, so I knew it could work. I read that others had some better sounding calls with DSL, tried it, worked for me.

So no contradiction there. Something can "work" in one set up, but "work better" in another set up. Can you comprehend that?

running cable through a heat vent is not ideal but will not cause a problem believe it or not.

I can comprehend things working and things not working what you said is "VoIP worked fine on my cable connection, but not as well as it does on my DSL connection." by saying that it worked fine, that means that it worked fine no issues but if you had issues then it didnt work fine can you comprehend that????? Lets be smart about what we type ok ptrowski. Anyway there is a thing called qos that gives priority to voip calls and it does not matter if it is peek hours or when people would get home hop on the net etc etc.... ok so it sounds like you probably had an RF issue, that sounds like the main problem. Now that we got that straightened out you might be a little more educated next time you say something works fine.

And this...

...is coming from someone who can't even type properly and use correct grammar? Sorry, but I can't stand it when people accuse others of being ignorant when those people can't even type properly!!!

Re: The problem with Vonage and other Voip providers

Technically, no it doesn't. The problem is that my wife and I put in the wood floors with the nice flush-mounted wood vents and the cable won't go through. Not to mention how it looks. I guess I'll just run my own through the wall. Not a huge deal, just a pain.
