[XP Pro] Problems with MS SP3 Installion on a HP Pavilion

When I installed SP3 on 05/08/08 , my computer refused to boot except in safe mode. So I went along for the ride, opened up control panel and unstalled the SP3. Rebooted everthing now works find.So I checked the system info/windows error reports, here's what I found;
Fault bucket686628912.8#x000d;8#x000a
hanging application iexplore.exe 7.0.6000.1664...
Can any on one tell me what is going on ? I would still like to install SP3 if possible.
Thanks

Did you see this thread, it's all about HP PCs and a problem/s they're having ...> »[MCE] XP SP3 Issues

Edit: MCE are actually XP PRO...
---> Windows Media Center Edition is actually XP Pro with a few added features!

---> MCE is actually the enhanced version of XP pro, added with many features. »www.theeldergeek.com/forum/index···ic=20746

---> In short, the Media Center is actually XP Pro bundled with multimedia features.

OT: XP MCE

I've always understood MCE to be XP Home with a Media Center. Isn't it missing some of the features of XP Pro (a business OS)?

Which version of MCE are you referring to, as your claim above as a general statement is not true for MCE 2005 for example.

One of the distinguishing differences between XP Home and XP Pro is whether the Simple File Sharing GUI is optional or Mandatory; and whether the box can be joined to a Domain.

By my lights, MCE 2005 is not based on XP Pro.

My wife's is a MCE 2003 which looks like now it has a XP PRO back bone... The first time I tried to install and had that Service Pack 3 setup error - Access is denied. When it re-did everything MCE is gone and now says it's XP PRO... Bill your the expert I'll better to keep my mouth shut, unless I know for sure... ...

Bill, I just want to let you know I've been following this SP 3 thing and just want to say thank you from all of us..There are others too... But right now Bill, you sure have been a lot of help... ...

I can attest to what bcastner is saying. I have MCE 2005 and it is not XP Pro.

It can't join a Domain (without hacks) but other than that, it is closer to Pro than Home.

Do you have IE7 installed (looks like you do)? If so, read here:

»XP SP3 and IE6, IE7 & IE8 (Beta) - Important Information

You also might want to read here before trying again about potential problems installing SP 3 on machines with AMD processors and OEM XP installs (HP being one of them). Ignore the "MCE" in the thread title. Please read the ENTIRE thread:
