pro7070 : Shaft and loft is going to depend on your shot pattern, distance, and launch angle. Any decent golf shop will have a simulator which will record your swing speed, ball speed, and launch angle. After recording you hit a few shots they will be able to tell you what's best for you. At one of the shots around here you pay $50 for a 1 hr fitting/lesson and then if you buy a driver from them they deduct the $50 off the price of the driver. For a $400+ driver I'd definitely look into that.

At 6'6" you are definitely going to need at least +1" length on the shaft, especially on your irons. I'm 6'2" and use +1/2" longer clubs.

But to answer your original question. If your are buying off the rack, at 6'6" and high swing speed, yes stiff would be the best starting point for you as a general rule.
