In short, the Media Center is actually XP Pro bundled with multimedia features.
Which version of MCE are you referring to, as your claim above as a general statement is not true for MCE 2005 for example.

One of the distinguishing differences between XP Home and XP Pro is whether the Simple File Sharing GUI is optional or Mandatory; and whether the box can be joined to a Domain.

By my lights, MCE 2005 is not based on XP Pro.

My wife's is a MCE 2003 which looks like now it has a XP PRO back bone... The first time I tried to install and had that Service Pack 3 setup error - Access is denied. When it re-did everything MCE is gone and now says it's XP PRO... Bill your the expert I'll better to keep my mouth shut, unless I know for sure... ...

Bill, I just want to let you know I've been following this SP 3 thing and just want to say thank you from all of us..There are others too... But right now Bill, you sure have been a lot of help... ...

I can attest to what bcastner is saying. I have MCE 2005 and it is not XP Pro.
