There's still the issue of NAT connection tracking and so on. It does solve port forwarding but I consider option 2 to be much better, that's how I have it setup. In the long run it will just have fewer issues. All that is lost is 2 LAN ports, and switches are cheap these days.
I only have a need for 1 wired connection everything else is wireless. I might try your idea although it seems weird that everyone would need to do this? Or is it only for people who want to run the DMT utility?
