kmcmurtrie : It takes up to 5 minutes to get the first header of a newsgroup. There's nothing I can do to make it faster. Just to keep it fun, random disconnections and 502s happen during use.

When do we get spam filtering?
rewind2846 : I already have a standalone provider, Usenet-access.com... been with them for years, and used it as a "pickup" for completing missed file parts and pieces that DSLX didn't get on their servers. Foe $6 a month, it's worth the money. My question is about Highwinds... I should pay even more for either upgrading Usenet-access or for an entirely new usenet service provider just because the usenet I was already paying for stopped working AND I am still paying for that as well?

Somehow that just doesn't make sense to me...

unoriginal : AT&T doesnt have anything to do with the Highwinds newsgroup errors. They simply provide your phone line. Have you considered getting a standalone newsgroup provider? I signed up with powerusenet.com while I was still with dslextreme and have been very happy with them. If you need more info drop by the filesharing forum here at dslr, there is a lot of very useful info in there.

rewind2846 : Between unwarranted 502 errors, messed up header counts, and dropouts I can't get any messages in the newsgroups older than two weeks, and it's is really getting frustrating. I know it's not DSLX's fault, but what was the point of making the switch to a provider with "longer retention" if you can't get the messages they retain?

Would it be too much to ask to change things back to the way they were? At least things worked two months ago... I can't even stay connected for more than a few minutes now, not even long enough to get a decent number of headers. If I wasn't using Agent Watch to automatically reconnect me when downloading bodies, I would get nothing at all.

Will there be a fix for this anytime soon, or will this be the level of service we just have to accept when using DSLX/Highwinds/AT+T?
