anon : Update on outage:

After spending several hours training Cox technical support about levels, DNS, basic ping command, and more, Cox level 2 support gave up. They realized it wasn't a problem at the home, it wasn't a problem with our cablemodem, it wasn't a problem with the levels, it didn't require some one to be dispatched to the home etc. They were going to pass the problem up the chain. Level 2 said there was known issue with some blocks of IPs not getting access to the Internet. We tried re-provision the modem so that it would pull a new IP, but that didn't help.

Several hours more hours passed and magically everything started working again.

Here's the interesting observations from my end:
- don't use Cox phone service if you really require phone service. The technical staff isn't technical and couldn't do anything to diagnose the problem. More IMPORTANTLY, when the phone MTA were down, our phone didn't transfer to voicemail or my cell phone as it was configured. It kept giving an out of service message or busy. (I'm glad we don't get many calls.)
- Cox Internet Technical support was significantly better, so if you have an outage, don't select the phone support option when cablemodem and Phone are down.

I did speak with the Cox Executive Offices Customer support person. She's always kind, understanding, and listens, but was unable to help. BUI, the service did come up when she answered, so maybe she has pull. :) She did offer to credit the account for a days worth a service. (I'm sure my cell phone bill will be higher.)

I'm glad the issue was system wide and only impacted a small block of IPs. Thanks all.

anon : Anyone else having a problem in Arizona? I spoke with Level 2 support and they said there are blocks of IPs that cannot get online. I have excellent levels on my cablemodem, and can ping the headend, but everything else just times out.

Technical support for phone is worse... Unplug/replug phone. Cannot look at levels. Don't know what lights should be on for the MTA.

Again, level 2 says there is nothing they can do but wait. It's a Network issue. (Note capital "N"...) No idea when it will come up.

Anyone else seeing any DNS type issue?
