I'm didn't say that.

I am the lead DNCS administrator, but I'm not the only one who has access or does work on the box. I was on vacation last week. While I wasn't made aware of any drift issues and can't find that any were reported to the headend techs, it doesn't mean that someone didn't go in behind me and take care of it. It's as simple as changing the date on any Solaris system. The DNCS software uses that time in it's CVT messages to set tops, which is where the boxes get their date information.

All I'm saying is that, as of 7:00am this morning, the time recieved by the DHCT's and the information present on channel 324 match.

A couple of weeks ago I spotted something very odd when I looked at my series recording settings for "Lost". Because the network has been sliding the starting time around by a minute or two, I had set the series up to record 5 minutes before the program block and to end 5 minutes after the hour time block. Passport Echo suddenly began starting at 9:57 instead of 9:55, but what was cool was that it knew ABC was starting it at 10:02 that week! Pretty smart little DVR! (Motorola 6416 III)

It's not consistant enough by any station to make that type of change. If this is the content provider (CBS,ABC,NBC, ect) then Cox has not control over this....IF you can verify this with more then just you then it may be coming from Cox.


I can confirm its FOX(5pm news came on at 4:58)
ABC(Wheel of fortune that is supposed to air at 6:30 and comes on at 6:28)
NBC same with law and order: set record to 9-10pm, the front gets clipped and you get 2 minutes of the NBC news after it.
lather rinse repeat with discovery channel stuff.
networks have the time on their "bug" and its spot on with the time.gov servers so i doubt its them.
Can't cox just adjust their master clock by two minutes?

that said, how are you determining that the clock is 'off'?

The devices are set from network time which should be spot on

you can compare this yourself by setting your PC's time via network time (you can even use ntp.cox.net if you would like) and compare that to the set-top. It should be within a few seconds. If it isn't try hard-resetting the set-top. I'm used to my BeyondTV app with dual tuners. It automatically pads the shows that are set to record with 2 minutes in the front and 2 minutes on the back side. Let's see if I can break it down by automatic.

Show A comes on NBC-HD from 7pm-8pm. That's all that is being recorded that night. So it records from 6:58 to 8:02 automatically. It records it then later that night marks the commercials for easy viewing later.

Show A comes on NBC-HD from 7pm-8pm on Tuesday. Show B comes on FOX-HD at 8pm-9pm. Show C comes on CBS-HD at 8pm-9pm. Show A will record from 6:58 to 8pm only because it couldn't hang out until 8:02 since the two tuners were scheduled for use at 8pm. If only one tuner was scheduled for use at 8pm it would have stayed around until 8:02pm.

If its NBC then they purposely extend or shorten episodes to "fit more in". I have seen this happen more often then not and you should always have some padding.

Have you tried unplugging the box for about 5 minutes then plugging it back in? If the time is still off then it is probably on Coxs side, but without knowing what you are trying to record as it could be the actual channel that is throwing the recording off.
