Re: [Vista] Vista shared files on a xp puter

2 cudni: no firewalls( i know but, but, but, aww forget it.i have bad habits ), and plain can't see the shared folders under my network places.

2 bcastner: have bookmarked #3; #2 is not applicable as i dont password protect my shared stuff; and #1 might be a problem as i've not checked the validity of my xp install (i use the lappy as a media xtender or qwick browsing outside).

2 lawrence171: when i go online under vista i will check my settings against those and see.

to all thank you

The (Vista) firewall should have nothing to do with it. Even if its enabled, Vista's Network Sharing Center should properly config. it to work.

- Appended "(Vista)" between "the" and "firewall" to avoid confusion. Thanks, bcastner, for pointing it out.

I can think of many, many firewall products where this claim is absolutely untrue. It most certainly is not true a capability enabled by default under Vista. You would have to be using a firewall that is UPnP compliant; you would have to enable this non-default feature; and you would have to manually configure Vista to enable UPnP.

The single case that Vista makes an automatic exception under a firewall for networking is with its own native firewall. However, your claim that under Vista the firewall "has nothing to do" with network sharing port and protocol exceptions, as the exceptions would be automatically made by the Visa Network Center, is untrue for every other firewall sold (or available as freeware), and Cudni See Profile's point is perfectly valid.
