[XP Home] XP SP2 delay in opening

One machine I have is running XP home premium SP2.

When I click "My Computer" from the start menu the window opens but the "flashlight" appears and takes quite some time to reveal the contents.

This just started happening. Any ideas why?

Thank you!!

Checked Even Logs, no erros. This is the only window that this flashlight appears to search for the windows contents no other.

It takes about 45 seconds to aminute for all the drives to be found in my computer folder.

Have you installed anything (updates, drivers, hardware, etc.), made any changes to the machine at all recently, or been running any Registry cleaners?

Do you have any media in the CD-ROM?

If it just happemed, system restore will the best bet. If you need to nail down the cause, that is a different story.

Also, if you "Stop" the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service does the delay resolve?:

I fixed it. It was Norton's Security doing. I downloaded the Nortons removal tool and the problem is gone. I should of known better.

Thanks for all the replies!!!!

Are you sure Norton was not scanning at the time so that the system appears to be slow?

It wasn't scanning. The only slowness that I noticed the most was whenever I would open "My Computer" and also when I would open windows explorer and try and open anything in thr tree.

Now that Nortons is removed "everything" opens instantly.

Does this mean that you have no active antivirus installed now?

Or that you had "1 and a 1/2" -- you removed only parts of Norton and replaced it with something new?
