Speedstream 4200 problem - bridge mode

I tried to follow »Bell Canada Internet FAQ

After bridging the modem I configured my Linksys for PPPoE, but for some reason I could not connect to the net.

I even tried to turn off the power to both routers for five minutes and then turning back on the power. There was no difference.

Please help.

Thanks

After setting the Linksys router to PPPoE, did you check the Status page of the router if the Login status is "Connected" or "Disconnected"? Because, if it is disconnected, then you will need to click the connect button first.

By the way,

- what's the model number of the router?
- how do you connect to the Internet when your computer is connected to the modem, do you enter your username and password from Bell Sympatico?

Here are the answers to your questions:

#1 I did not, but I will.

#2 The Linksys WRT54G.

#3 I am always on 24/7.

what was the message/error when you click the "Connect" button on the router's setup page?

After setting the modem to a bridge mode, did you try if the username and password from your ISP (Bell) work? (This can be tested by connecting your computer directly to the modem then set up a connection manager. The connection manager would be the dialler for you to connect to the Internet, you will enter the username and password from your ISP. Once connected, try if you can access the Internet).

This is the procedure that works for me.

Siemens Speedstream 4200 Bridged Configuration
1. Open your web browser and go to »192.168.254.254/. Log in using admin as
the username and using admin as the password. You will be presented with the PPP
Setup page. Completely ignore all the settings on this PPP Setup page.
2. Click on the Setup item along the left-hand side of the page. A submenu will
open displaying detailed configuration pages. Locate and click on the WAN Interface
item.
3. Click on the uppermost Delete button to delete all circuits shown on the WAN
Interface area. Once everything is deleted, it should look like this.
4. Click on the Add New VC button to add a new circuit.
5. Change the VPI to 0 and change the VCI to 35. Set the Encapsulation Type to
LLC. Click on the Next button to continue.
6. Select RFC-2684 Bridged as the Protocol. Click on the Finish button.
7. Locate and click on the DHCP item beneath the Setup menu.
8. Click on the Disabled radio button and then click on the Save Settings button
near the bottom.
DHCP Screenshot
9. A notice will be displayed reminding you to reboot the modem. Go ahead and
click on the Reboot button to reboot now.

Doc I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I must tell you that your instructions were right on...I've been trying to bridge my 4200 ever since I upgraded to 6 meg DSL by hitting the reset button and my GL would never connect...your instruction was the way I was able to let my GL do the routing. Thanks
