Did you recently make any changes to your telephone wires?
Did you add or remove a new telephone line connected device?
11am or 11pm?
Microfilters and telephones occasionally go bad. Try disconnecting all telephone line connected devices except for the DSL modem. What does the DSL modem do? If it's still not working, try running a direct telephone line from the NID test jack to your DSL modem. Does it work?
Can you borrow a friend's DSL modem? Hook it up. Does it act the same way? Maybe the modem has a loose internal connection (bad soldering)? I think there's a 1 year warranty that AT+T can handle for you on the hardware if it did fail. Otherwise, if you're desperate you can buy a spare modem at Best Buy... or if you're lucky, find someone who has a spare or one for cheap on ebay.
It's possible that a line technician goofed up your telephone line when repairing another telephone line. Unfortunately, they wont be able to figure that out without dispatching a technician. If you had voice telephone service and DSL, they'd have been able to figure out that kind of problem quicker: calling your telephone would result in infinite rings and no ring at your residence. |

Did you change the wiring when you moved from one jack to the other?
Maybe a wire came loose?
Have you tried moving back to the other jack?
Inspect the customer side of your NID. All you need is a screw driver. Are there any critters or other strange things in there?
Do you have a home-run? If you have a home-run, or any custom wiring, make sure that you only have 1 pair of wires at each point. There's a home-run guide out there that suggests that you bundle 4 pairs of wire of a CAT 5 cable together for each terminal. Don't do it. Only use 1 pair of the CAT 5 cable for DSL.
Did/do you have a telephone connected security system? Did you recently change that service in any way? |

| -Nope, did not change the wiring. Also tried the modem in 3 other jacks with same wire, same result. Modem is now hooked into original jack.
If it's on my end, I think it has to be something in the apartment building, or a modem defect.
I don't have any other telephony or security systems. My system isn't home-run. |

If you haven't already done so, you might want to call AT&T again and see if somebody else there gets the same results. I haven't had a problem for years so I don't recall at what level of tech support they actually try to reach your modem.
You might post on a classifieds site (such as Craigslist) looking for someone with a spare DSL modem you could borrow. Or, see if a friend knows some geek who has one you could borrow for a few hours.
If you have access to the demarcation point (aka NID) in your apartment building and the wiring serving your apartment happens to be properly labeled, you can try hooking up the modem there to see what happens. However, especially in older buildings, this can be a long shot.
I'd guess that somebody grabbed your dialtone-less wire pair to fix somebody else's service, but that is not the kind of thing that usually happens at 11:00 PM (2300), whether by AT&T or your apartment building's wiring contractor.

I am not currently at home, I will grab the modem statpage and post them later.
The reason I didn't post my stat printout is that everything is blank, but I will put it up in case there is any usable information for you guys.
THe message I posted earlier is the message I get when I load up 192.168.1.254 and try to log in; everything is listed as blanks. |
