i've been complaining on this board these past few days about my speed... can someone explain these fields to me, i'm getting only 1 meg... i started with 2.6 meg with tek savvy with no problems, then the speed dwindles over the course of the year and the half to 2.2 meg, to 1.8 meg, now its just 1 meg..., yeah, and i've even tried a method the tek taught me plug in the line from outside but that dosn't seem to help either..., i fear rogers is my only choice now...

Have you tried calling Teksavvy to have them open a ticket with Bell?

um, actually calling tek savvy was what caused me speed to plummet, everytime they submit a ticket, bell took the chance to screw me even more.

If you cycle the power on the modem, is that what it syncs to, or is that what it ends up being after connected for a long while? I've seen worse lines than yours handle better. My father is 62.5dB and now gets 4M stable.

SN Margin (AKA Signal to Noise Margin or Signal to Noise Ratio)
Relative strength of the DSL signal to Noise ratio. 6dB is generally the lowest dB manufactures specify in order for the modem to be able to synch. In some instances interleaving can help raise the noise margin to an acceptable level. Generally speaking, as overall bandwidth increases, your signal to noise ratio decreases. A customer that upgrades from 1.5 to 6.0 (or provisioned with the MaxSync Profile) will typically see a corresponding decrease in the signal to noise ratio. This is normal and nothing to worry about. The higher the number the better for this measurement.
6dB or below is bad and will experience no synch or intermittent synch problems
7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions
11dB-20dB is good with no synch problems
20dB-28dB is excellent
29dB or above is outstanding

Line Attenuation
Measure of how much the signal has degraded between the DSLAM and the modem. Maximum signal loss recommendation is usually about 60dB. One of the biggest factors affecting line attenuation is distance from the DSLAM. Generally speaking, bigger distances mean higher attenuation. The lower the dB the better for this measurement.
20dB and below is outstanding
20dB-30dB is excellent
30dB-40dB is very good
40dB-50dB is good
50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues
60dB or above is bad and will experience connectivity issues

That mirrors my experience. Though I'm not with TSI (yet! almost!). My mistake was calling to get them to check why it dropped from 2496 down to 1760 (but stable) sync. The result: Bell drops my profile to 1M. This is quite amusing as the distance to the CO hasn't changed (that I know of), and the attentuation has been about the same, yet I was at 2496 for a couple of years.

(Current ISP: look.ca. Very dissappointed -- not very good support at all. They basically told me (after once more trying to say it was my modem's fault (third modem now)) that *I* should call Bell to try to get them to move me to a different port on the switch. No mention of remotes or anything like that.)

And no, I'm not expecting miracles from TSI. But at least there's *some* intelligence there and I stand a better chance there than elsewhere.

You can still have a terrible line and be on a fast path profile. But the likelihood of a stable line is slim.

i Have a 2 wire hence lack The Ability to use dmt But I think i do pretty well i am on 5m fast path and these are my Numbers
Current Noise Margin: 12.0 dB (Downstream), 6.0 dB (Upstream)
Current Attenuation: 54.8 dB (Downstream), 29.0 dB (Upstream)
Current Output Power: 19.6 dBm (Downstream), 11.9 dBm (Upstream)

From what i see on your list its about maxed out but i never /dc etc..

any idea why there is Such a varience in the Downstream/upstream numbers? i mean the Downstream has good SNR bad ATTN the Upstream is the Opposite.. bad SNR good ATTen?
