No SP3 Problem

I didn't have a problem with SP3 on my Gateway laptop. The most likely machine I have to crash and burn but it didn't even flinch.

The story says that the reboot problem showed up on systems with AMD processors, not Intel. Does your laptop have an Intel CPU? I put SP3 on my Dell 4500S system that dates from 2002. No problem for me, either, with SP3, but I have a genuine Intel CPU, for what that's worth.

I have not tried to install SP3 on my Intel Pentium D system, but a good idea before attempting it on any machine.

Goto: START> CONTROL PANEL> SYSTEM> SYSTEM PROPERTIES> ADVANCED> STARTUP AND RECOVERY> SETTINGS>

Then un-check the Automatically Restart Box Under 'System Failure'.

That way you will disable the Automatic Restarts when the system crashes, but instead you will get the Classic "Stop Screen",
AKA-BSOD "Blue Screen of Death", which will confirm that the machine is actually crashing on boot up, not simply rebooting.

It will also provide you with some debugging information that should be helpful in resolving why there is a Stop Error during Boot.

Possibly identifying an offending driver file (NTOSKernal.dll)... They BETA test these Service Packs for things like this, Right??

ROTFLMFAO

It also lets you define a "Kernel Memory Dump" file that you can send back to Micro$oft for debugging purposes.

Or you can just go out and buy a MAC and not worry about this

Oh, thats right, the MAC people get the SAD MAC Icon, instead of the BSOD

You just can't win against these damn machines...
