rcdailey : The story says that the reboot problem showed up on systems with AMD processors, not Intel. Does your laptop have an Intel CPU? I put SP3 on my Dell 4500S system that dates from 2002. No problem for me, either, with SP3, but I have a genuine Intel CPU, for what that's worth.
