Is it possible to get your "signal" re-routed?
I'm having trouble whenever my "signal" gets put onto the cogentco network. I'd like to avoid getting onto it until the last possible moment. Is there a way to do this?
The final destination is a cogentco host, so I can understand the legitimacy of getting my "signal" onto their network as soon as possible. The problem is that the current route "stalls" heavily (JFK area)...and for the purposes of my "mission", this cannot be tolerated.
Current route to host -
(Verizon 192.168.x.x, 2 hops) Starting Location
(Verizon 130.81.x.x, 6 hops) PHL NWRK NY
(cogentco 154.54.x.x, 9 hops) JFK BOS (66.28.x.x) ORM MCI SFO SJC
(cogentco 38.104.x.x, 1 hop) Final Destination
Please note that some of the "bad" cogentco routers are on the BBR Watched Router list.
Thoughts?
Thanks. |

Interesting VRIS has a presence in San José, California (SJC). I wonder what the routing cost is to stay on VRIS transit across country, before connecting with Cogentco? (In contrast with handing off to Cogentco right away, and letting Cogentco carry the traffic cross country.) -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

Unfortunately, because of how routing protocols work, VRIS has no way of knowing that the destination address is close to San Jose. Once Verizon sees that the destination is CogentCo, they want to get the packet to them as soon as possible. |

Do other ISP's follow the same protocols that Verizon does?
