| [Skype] Skype $2/month unlimited USA&Canada
Skype now expand the $2.95/month unlimited USA&Canada plan to worldwide now (before it's for USA&Canada only). They offer pay 2 month and get 1 month free so your total for 1 year is $24 USD.
If you buy a PC FREE SKYPE PHONE such as Linksys CIT400 or Netgear SPH200D, you don't need your computer power on and you can make unlimited call across USA&Canada for only $2/month!!!

| Re: [General] Skype $2/month unlimited USA&Canada
I think you maybe confused on the prices. There are now 3 plans.
The Unlimited ("10,000 Minutes per month") for the U.S. and Canada from the U.S. and Canada costs $2.95 U.S. per month, but there are additional costs for the other plans which cover the rest of the world.
Also, these plans can be purchased one month at a time.
Until June 1, 2008 there is a 33 percent discount on these 3 plans.

Unlimited calls across US/Canada for $2/month is not a bad deal at all, except this still can't beat free offers from GC (outgoing requires the web2click option - can be hacked through this perl scripts - and/or Brring (incoming ONLY).
Anyway, if you are thinking to save $$$ on your phone bills, I believe it is fair to ask yourself the following questions before you head out to invest your $$$ on such a gadget:
•How much does this device cost? •How many Skype lines can this device support? •Can the device be used with any VoSP, i.e. any SIP compliant VoSP? •Does the company support other compliant firmware to make this device to work with other VoSP If the device is too expensive and can only support a single Skype line, then the savings you get from Skype services for $24/year may not be as good as what you had in your mind. Using free/commercial SIP compliant VoSPs with a PAP2T (can handle two SIP lines) may even cost less in the long run. Remember, if you want to save in your telephone bills, it is not the cost/minute will save you, but the overall add-ons fees that count. Assuming you will invest your $$$ on this device and use Skype for 5+ years with the assumption that the long distant calls/minute through Skype and/or other commercial VoIP/PSTN remains the same, then you are probably going to save a lot (5*$24 + cost of the device) using this approach than any other known commercial SIP complient VoSPs. Otherwise, you may end up paying more, especially if Skype decides to cease its operation due to stiff competitions with thousands of SIP compliant VoSPs. So, make your decision wisely. -- Mazilo always prays for FREEBIES! US Phone: +1-678-601-0907 UK Phone: +44-703-194-2574

| Skype phone is much easier to config than the regular SIP adapters. A lot of non-technical people pick Skype to make their life easier.
The Skype phone price range from $30 to $150 depending which one you pick. Buy a Netgear SPH200D ($120) plus $24 for 1 year Skype plan. Total $144 and you're covered for one year unlimited call anywhere in USA&Canada($12/month).
If I have a phone line already and don't want change it, this kind of dual mode Skype phone (ie. Netgear SPH200D) can support both regular phone line and Skype. You can use your old phone line for incoming and use Skype to make all outgoing call. For total $144/year for first year and $24/year after, unlimited USA&Canada. It's hard to beat this plan. |

The Skype phone price range from $30 to $150 depending which one you pick. If you can get a Skype ATA device that plugs into an RJ45 port for $30, that will be OK.
Buy a Netgear SPH200D ($120) plus $24 for 1 year Skype plan. Total $144 and you're covered for one year unlimited call anywhere in USA&Canada($12/month). Honestly, that won't be a bad idea. I supposed Skype doesn't add those FCC/911 surcharge fees (etc.) that most phone companies do. If this is true, then you pay exactly what is advertised. Can anyone confirm this?
For total $144/year for first year and $24/year after, unlimited USA&Canada. It's hard to beat this plan. I am sure to some people this is an excellent offer; however, I still won't waste my $$$ on this offer. Free services from GC + GP are still my best choice when it comes to free VoIP services. -- Mazilo always prays for FREEBIES! US Phone: +1-678-601-0907 UK Phone: +44-703-194-2574

My aged parents traveled last year with a LInksys C200 phone and this year with a MagicJack. Trying to explain how to dial a plus or add numbers to Skype contacts was a pain for them that they never got over; with MagicJack it acted like a phone that they understood.
So in this case, actually using Skype everyday made life harder for two non-technical people. |
