| Another Session Terminated by Access Concentrator
As I've seen in other posts I also have been getting "session x terminated by access concentrator". I've been running an Internet backup for about eight weeks so I've been more aware of the problem than I would have previously. I installed a syslog server on my Vista PC so I could obsess over the problem . Over the last five days I've had over a hundred terminations. I've had several technicians out to check my line which they tell me is fine. On the last visit, they replaces my trusty eight year old Alcatel with a Motorola 2210-02-1002. I took few drops in the following days. Then Monday morning, it dropped every 15 to 20 minutes as it did the week before on the old adapter.
Since it was suggested in the other posts that the router may be the problem, I took it out of the circuit yesterday. Since then, its dropped three times. The error from the adapter log is: "PPPOE: Sending PADT packet for PPP , Session 0x83d8 is closed". Of course, it may just be a symptom.
As per a separate post I seem to be well below my max speed. Could it be that the problem is with the access concentrator? By its name it seem to be something on the AT&T side of the line. It in the Technician Readout it says: 90084090400364-rback38.snfcca.
Over the last three weeks the problem seems to be the worst on Monday mornings with Sunday evening being a close second.
Right now my setup is PC(Vista)-Switch-Motorola 2210. Previously it had a Dlink DIR-655 between the switch and the 2210. The only other device on the LAN is a Lutron light controller. There's also a laptop that that has a wireless connection that it out of the loop along with the router.
What to post 1)Motorola 2210-02-1002 2)PRO package capped at 2.0kb 3)With and without a DLink DIR-655 4)PPPoE login info is in the adapter 5)Can't see them. The adapter is in a wiring cabinet (all steel) in a closet. 6)I have an eight year old setup. I have a separate DSL line from a box where the pair comes in from the pole. I seldom have any phones connected to the circuit anyway. 7)Powered everything many times. 8)I only connect the phone to call 611 so haven't listened to it much. 9)ADSL Information Line State Up Modulation DMT Data Path Fast

| Well after getting some help from David in AT&T Direct and an on-site technician, it looks like my problem is fixed. After taking my router out of the circuit, I saw that my signal quality would drop to the point that the SNR would go negative (looking at the DSL adapter's statistics). The line would drop. The signal quality would stay bad from any where from about one minute to about fifteen then it would be fine. This would happen as many as twenty time a day. The quality improved Thursday of last week. A tech came out on Friday and saw it was clean, but that there was a bridge tap about 400 away. As best as I can remember he thought the inactive line connected to it might be mirroring back the signal thus killing the quality. That was most likely removed on Saturday and I haven't had an outage since.
So if you're getting "Session Terminated by Access Concentrator" messages, take a look at the DSL adapter's web page to see what it says. The ideal test would be to make a direct connection from you NID to your adapter to your PC as described somewhere on this site. That should eliminate any problem on your side although those more knowledgeable may know better. |
