| Wifi at work
I have a Charter High Speed Internet, which supplies my Netgear ProSafe VPN Firewall, which is connected to all of my office computers and network storage. I then have a trendnet b/g wireless router connected to it that is secure so it both browses the internet and the workgroup files that all of my computers are sharing. I then want to connect a wireless router that will be accessible to my clients that come in that is connected to one shared network folder so we don't have to use a usb 2.0 flashdrive to transfer files they bring in with their laptop. but i don't want them to have access to all of my files, only the internet and that one folder. |

| I have three computers that share a 500gb network storage device, which is connected to the netgear 8 port firewall router, and i want one wireless secure router for my personal use to use my laptop to access these same files, and then an additional wireless un-secure router that has access to the internet, but to only one shared folder, that all three computers have access to. please help me. |

SipSizzurp Jeziss prefers McCain Premium join:2005-12-28 Hilo, HI | reply to jabel2008 You need to secure the network. Give all users a username and password. Then establish permissions on the network resources that you want to share. I'm sure the NAS has the ability to assign permissions. |

| This is what i would like, my charter internet supplies the whole network internet connectivity. the netgear firewall connects all the computers and network storage together. then there is the trendnet that is secure that only business laptops can have access to to get on the internet and all the network files as well. then there is the linksys router that is un-secure that anyone can connect to and get on the internet and access only the one single folder. please help. this is a nightmare.
thank you. |

@ameritech.net | what are you talking about? the above diagram and access setup requested has nothing to with biometrics. thank you. |

..the above diagram and access setup requested has nothing to with biometrics. Sure it does. The whole queston is about file access and permission. |

Can you confirm you are using three charter modems or one charter modem with multiple IPs connected to a single managed switch and then to the routers. |

| reply to jabel2008 While waiting for the response, you may wish to consider adding an access point with multiple ESSIDS as a solution to providing separate wifi networks.
You may be able to dispense with both the trendnet and linksys routers for example.
I personally don't like the idea of a no security setting device which has a path to your "secured" network.
Without considering other software avenues, I like the idea of putting that particular computer on a separate DMZ on a router. On a zywall router for example, this computer would be on its DHCP serving DMZ LAN. By use of default packet flows access to the private LAN (the rest of the computers) would be denied. You could open up access from this PC to the private LAN by firewall rules as you see fit. The wifi device would be attached to a separate WLAN DHCP serving LAN with the only default access being to the internet. Then by the use of firewall rules, one could allow access to the DMZ shared file computer by those in the WLAN LAN, and similarly the same for all the private LAN pcs to be able to access the DMZ PC files.
Of course you could simplify this setup by simply placing the shared PC on the private LAN so that this PC can talk back and forth with the other PCs without the need for firewall rules. One would still place the public Wifi on the WLAN with only access to the internet and then make limited access to the single PC in the private LAN by firewall rules. | Here is an updated graphic of the setup, the charter supplies the netgear vpn firewall, then one ethernet goes to the trendnet secure wireless router, then one ethernet from there goes to the linksys unsecure wireless router. I hope this clarifies my setup and i'm having trouble understanding how you think i should set this up but i definitely think your onto something, please help me. thank you.
