I was using refilled cartridges and apparently they were not up to par. I used a couple of different ones and they still didn't work. I purchased a new cartridge and it worked. Printer prints great again. All is well. thanks all.

The refilled ink cartridges showed 70% 80% full, yet still didn't work. Not sure what that's about. Oh well, at least I know that was the problem. Hate buying new cartridges all the time. Maybe I'll have to refill them better. I have tons of refill ink on hand. Highway robbery.

Anyway, thanks again.

I haven't even looked in there yet. thanks.

I'm sorry, the model number is '7'550, I just checked. Hey it was 'new' when I bought it! lol It does have the 56 and 57 cartridges as well as the 58 photo cartridge. I do seem to need all three for an optimal quality print. Now it's printing in Reserve mode while the photo cartridge is missing. I did swap the cartridge and it still does that. I print all my photos with it.... until now. I'll try and clean behind the cartridge and see what happens.

Dogg, send me a message for those cartridges.

Sweet Witch : Well, since it's basically no good now, sit yourself down and start taking it apart :D. I've had to do that and if you're careful it can be done. Just go slowly, keep the pieces in a container, and don't pull all of it apart if you don't need to.

The main places you want to look are where the ink travels and where the sensors are.
--
"While you can teach an old dog new tricks, you simply can't teach him to be a cat."

cissado : 9550? Photosmart printer. It's a a bit old but was working perfectly until one of the cartridges ran out and ran on reserve mode for a while. I think the problem is ink got into the printer and messed up the sensors or something because everything seems fine until it prints, then I lose color from the 'photo' cartridge. The prints are total crap. I just switched to reserve mode with only two cartridges and it's OK, but certainly not 100%.

I used a self filling ink when I refilled the cartridges and I think it was too messy, thus getting the insides of the printer either damaged or compromised, I don't know, just a guess.

I run diagnostics and cleaning, but after 20 cleanings, it still seems to be off.

Can I clean the printer manually? How do I do that? Any other advise except "buy a new printer"? lol I really like this one. $400 ouch!

thanks for reading.
