Voom HDs - 'Channel not available' msg last 2 weeks

Starting about 2 weeks ago I started getting the message 'Channel not available' on several HD channels.

It changes to different channels at different times, but always from among the Voom HD channels lineup.

It's always several channels not just one and it lasts for most of the day when a channel is affected.

Could this be caused by switched digital changes?
Is anyone else having the same problems or do I need to replace my 8300hd dvr?

I get the same thing on my cable box for VOOM channels. It's random as you describe and it lasts for a while, if not days.

As frustrating as it is, I urge everyone to complain to CV when this happens. It takes many complaints to move them, if they can be moved.

If you have flaky service, complain. If you're the only person in your neighborhood who has issues, you may wish to speak with techs in the OOLDirect forum, or you may wish to contact cablevision tech support by phone.

If it's not your equipment or signal levels, and if it doesn't improve after 3-5 days, complain to the FCC.

It's surprising how much the FCC can do for you. Even though they're not going to put Cablevision in front of congress over one complaint, companies will jump through hoops to avoid trouble.

Me: Nextel, I'm 1 year in to my 2 year contract. You're raising the rate of a long distance surcharge (note, not a tax). That's materially adverse, and you have to let me cancel my contract without a termination fee.
SprintNextel Reps: Lies and flimflam.
Me: I'm going to complain to the Federal Communications Commission.
SprintNextel: You have no case!!111!!1!eleventy
*I complain to the FCC*
3 days later...
SprintNextel EXECUTIVE CUSTOMER SERVICE: Um, we got a nastygram from the FCC.
Me: *Reads my contract terms pertaining to adverse changes*
SprintNextel: Port your number whenever you want and we'll cancel the early termination fee. Please tell the FCC that we were nice to you. PLEASE!

So never underestimate your ability to make people listen. Squeaky wheel gets the oil, etc.

I think the days of Voom are almost over. Dish dropped 10 of the 15 channels yesterday. As it was reported last week, Voom lawyers said the suite of channels cannot survive without Dish's support.

"As of result of these additions (20 new HD channels), [Dish] removed some channels that are less popular with our customers."

Thats OK.. By now, I think just about everyone has watched all 25 of their HD programs that they played over and over again.

Speak for yourself. I found that the Voom channels, while repetitive, had enough new content to keep me interested.

I'll be sad if these channels disappear permanantly.

EDIT: Over on satelliteguys.us, they are discussing how 10 Voom channels have been permanantly dropped on Dishnetwork. Are those dropped channels going belly up? Meaning will they still survive on cablevision (even if only on SDV) ?

I like a lot of the Voom material, but Dish got it right. There is maybe enough for 5 channels, not 15.

Same problem here.

One of the first people I spoke with at CV told me it was a known issue and that (many?) others had called.
They said the engineers would look into it.
They called back almost daily last week but usually when I was at work.
The last person called while I was home and explained that it was happening when too many people were watching the same channel at the same time.
She mentioned that they would need to take measurements (it wasn't occurring when she called) and that they would then need to increase the capacity / bandwidth.

FIOS and Cablevision are really ripping us off these days and seem to be colluding to keep prices sky high.
Since the introduction of FIOS, CV's prices have not changed at all, at least not for the better.

So basically the prior poster said that VOOM is actually more popular than they thought, and SDV can't handle it?

it could be a contention issue but most of the time its related to wiring problems . some switched video frequencys are low which can pick up FM interference if cable is poorly shielded or poor conectors or splitters. so if there not working you made need a rewire or just check to make sure all the fittings(connectors) are tight on all splitters or connections ...

Im interested in finding out if they are holding out on fully moving the VOOM channels over to SDV.. I received the postcard back in March that they were moving, but so far they are still on the traditional frequencies in the Brookhaven system.

Here in morris county, VOOM went SDV today finally (not that I'm happy, but I thought it was happening 4/15) ...and I'm getting the channel not available a LOT on most of the channels.

Can you scroll up or down on the VOOM channels now that they are SDV or do you have to enter in the channel number to get to them?

At first I had to manually type them in (pressing channel up and down skipped right over them!!)... but looking at my diagnostics screen, my box lost its IP address. Rebooting brought back the IP and I was able to press channel up and down to get them to come up.

But still lots of "Channel Not Available" more than the channels actually coming in.

This is going to be a NIGHTMARE for when my ReplayTV records from these channels as it'll be a crapshoot on if I get my channels, or I record a nice "not available" message.

MAybe its because on the babylon part of cablevision its not sdv yet but voom has been working here in lindenhurst.

Also there are some great shows on these channels. Like yesterday I caught a how the best is done episode on golf courses and they mentioned bethpage black a lot.

Some of the voom channels do repeat a lot like rave but some of them have pretty good content like equator hd and treasure hd.

I don't get program descriptions farther than 2 days. This has been ongoing for some time now. Is anyone else having this issue? Even with reboots, the epg only shows the titles of shows.

My voom channels just became unavailable on my 8300 and blank on my 4200s.

Update: After working with Cablevision, some work, but others just stay stuck on "Initializing, please wait"
