The sd boxes don't have component(red green blue + red and white for audio), They do have S-video, its better than composite(yellow red white).

If you get a tv thats sized for the room sd looks decent, although if you get a larger tv you will notice the difference in quality as the picture is blown up bigger.

With your test dvd player make sure the store dosen't have it hooked up with hdmi or component cables as they provide better quality than standard def.
