Shutdown, start up issue

Whenever I shutdown my computer nothing happens when I press the start button unles I also turn off the PSU and turn it back on again. Previously with XP64 this wasn't an issue. This all started with a clean install of Vista64. I got no answer in the Microsoft forum a week ago so maybe it's not software related?

So you turn off your computer by using the button on the case? Or do you mean you click Start>Shut Down?

However I shut down the computer It will not start up again without shutting off the PSU (switch on the back) and turning it back on, then the button on the front will start the computer.

My guess would be a faulty power supply, but you'll need to swap it out as part of the troubleshooting.

Here are the spec's. As far as swapping out the PSU, I'll have to wait for a replacement.

well, some issues I see being reported via Vista.

1. Motherboard Name - Unknown
Motherboard Chipset - Unknown
BIOS Type - Unknown

2. Storage:
IDE Controller - Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller
IDE Controller - Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller
IDE Controller - Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller
SCSI/RAID Controller - Microsoft iSCSI Initiator
Floppy Drive - Floppy disk drive
Disk Drive - Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device
Disk Drive - Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device
Disk Drive - Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device
Disk Drive - Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device
Disk Drive - Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device

3. Operating System - Microsoft Windows Vista MCE
OS Service Pack - NONE
DirectX - 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)

it should be DX10, not 9.
the SP is missing
there's no such thing as a Vista MCE
(Vista Basic, Vista Business, Vista Enterprise, Vista Home Premium, and Vista Ultimate)

the motherboard is not being recognized
the chipset drivers are not installed
whatever the usb device is, needs it's drivers installed

I've encountered this issue a few times. The key, is that you have to completely remove power from the power supply before it will restart. Time for a new power supply. Failing power supplies can cause all sorts of various symptoms and cause Windows to log numerous errors.

I don't know Vista, so I can't really comment to help, but I do see a couple of posts saying power supply, so I just draw attention to the OP's statement:

Previously with XP64 this wasn't an issue. This all started with a clean install of Vista64

Sounds like it's a problem of the OS not fully shutting down, as opposed to a shot PS.

I would wonder if the chipset / MB drivers were installed, or if there's a motherboard firmware update available to be compatible with Vista.
