Tivo is your best bet. Yes there is subscription fees, but in the end I feel you will appreciate the service benefits vs fios boxes.

You get TivoToGo, tivo's can stream SD and HD between them, and many other features. We are getting our second Tivo.

Also sometimes they give out lifetime subscription specials. So that can make up for the fee.
