| AIM Call Out & SIP
Apparently, AOL has made AIM CallOut SIP compatible: you can log into your AIM CallOut account with SIP and make calls on a pre-paid basis with what they say are great rates.

Has anyone tried this yet? |

You do have to charge your account with at least $5 to verify. Of course, you can use that credit after the free promo. |

| reply to tcallan Has anyone managed to configure an ATA to work with an AIM account that requires register + Ans Call Without Reg options set to NO + Make Call Without Reg option set to YES + Auth ID set to ScreenName@aim.com? I just couldn't make this to work with my PAP2v1 and/or asterisk-1.4.19.1. |

I don't think a PAP2v1 is much different. »voice.aol.com/devices/linksys-pa···-over-ip |

| reply to tcallan A bit off topic here. Does anyone still remember AIM PhoneLine (see this old blog about AIM PhoneLine)? The reason I brought this up is AIMPhoneLine used to give out free DID #. Now, it seems like it is the same as AIM without the free DID #. Can anyone please confirm this? |

| reply to hwittenb That's how I knew, but it won't work on my PAP2v1 nor asterisk. Can anyone try this on a PAP2T? |

After adding funds, you can dial immediately and toll-free numbers are not charged, although I haven;t seen they specified that anywhere.
If you want I can make a print screen for ya with the settings. |

join:2007-02-21 Macomb, IL | I configured the service successfully on both SPA2102 and PAP2T. No sweat.
Did you use sip.aol.com?
Try sip.aol.com:5060 and make sure the sip port of the line is 5060. That should work. |

| Update:
CAVIAT EMPTOR:
When signing up for the service, the TOS (Bullet number 11 F) stipulates that:
"Taxes and Fees. You agree to pay all applicable taxes and fees associated with the Service. Any applicable taxes and fees will be charged to your payment method at the time of purchase and again charged each time the account is refilled. We may, in our discretion, aggregate such taxes and fees and post such charges to your payment method, as a separate item, once such aggregated taxes and fees reach a total of One Dollar USD ($1.00) or greater".
I purchased $ 5 credit and I incurred also the separate charge of $ 1, of which I had no idea until I was checking my CreditCard acount today. The charge wasn't even posted, as the CSR was the one to tell me about it. It is an interesting aspect about AIM CallOut, indeed. Just wanted to cover this particular MO they have, for future signups. They say they may charge at their discretion a taxes & fees; well they really do it
However, I must point out to some good features of the service, as well:
- great voice quality without any further tweaking in the ATA - Supports DTMF tones without any glitch - Toll-free number calls are not charged
It makes for a pretty good call-out backup service when other providers may be down temporarily. |
