They can start by removing the "send text message" from their websites and only allow it for customers only when the log into the web portals on the website, where that feature would become available.

Very true... I have a Nextel Blackberry 7100i, and never receive spam (filters work well). On my AT&T Samsung ZX-20, I had to have AT&T disable messaging altogether, as both lines we receiving ringtone spam ad messaging Of course, AT&T has some 'controls', but then you have to pay fees to use it.

In general - wireless companies love txt messaging though, as its VERY high profit margin
