VoIP International Number for Canadian Location

I live in Canada and I have my own BYOD. It is a Draytek Vigor 2800VG (»www.draytek.com/product/adsl2plu···0VG.php). It supports SIP accounts and G.711A/µ law, G.726, G.723.1, G.729A/B, VAD/CNG codecs.

Is anyone aware of a VoIP provider that would give me an international number (for example, from Romania/Europe) as I would like some friends from there to be able to call me in Canada for free (for them)?

I am not sure you can find too many VoIP providers that offer "green" or "toll-free" (for the caller) Romanian numbers.
Oriunde.com offers such numbers. However, they don't have BYOD, so you are bound to have a monthly plan (about $ 9/month with 200 minutes I believe - paying just $ 1 more for a toll-free number) and use their adaptor.

There are several providers that do offer Romanian DIDs (as said, not sure if they have toll-free DIDs):

Callcentric:
- Rate with Romania Proper 5.4 cents/min
- Internat Unlimited DID # : $ 7.95 setup fee/ and $ 8.95/mo

CallWithUs:
- Rate with Romania Proper 2.5 cents/min
- Romania DID (3000/mo. minutes): $ 5.00 setup and $ 5.00/mo

Future-Nine:
- Rate with Romania Proper 2.5 cents/min
- DID ---> you can post a question for Nitzan Kon as for how much would cost a Romanian DID

I am sure there are some other providers, but at least you got something to start with. Do a thorough investigation/comparison before you decide for a provider.
Good luck.

You can also open an account on www.dialnow.com and give your PIN to your friends who will call you for free by using Bucharest access number.

Great to know, as it sounds very enticing. (Can you put your hands on some 40-34 numbers, or Bucharest is the only option from your re/sellers?)
Any included minutes?
Tks.

Unfortunately I don't see anything for 40-34 right now.

I'll keep my eyes open for it though.

Tks for the quick reply, Mr. Night Owl

The "21" numbers have any included minutes or the regular rate with Romania applies for incoming calls?

Yep, 5000 minutes included.

Why not use a Romanian CLEC such as Netmaster?! www.smartcall.ro

National DIDs are free (40-21 for Bucharest and 40-3XX for other regions) and proper termination is under EUR0.02/minute.

Actually I've been a customer of theirs for a while and I didn't have a problem getting the SIP settings/credentials for using a different adapter (I even had the account programmed in my Asterisk for a while). And the adapter is "free" (well, more like "included with the 1 year contract") so it's never a bad idea to keep a spare around, if you program the settings in your own router.
As far as I know, www.oriunde.com is the only provider offering true toll free Romanian numbers (0800-xxxxxx) over VoIP (keeping in mind that calls to regular local numbers in Romania are not free, even on land lines).
The reasons I no longer use their services:
- the monthly fee (there are other providers, mentioned in this thread, like www.smartcall.ro) who give you the local DID for free.
- many local telephone companies (including Romtelecom) now have plans with lots of minutes included (even with free evenings/weekends), so a toll free number is no longer that attractive
- some VoIP providers like www.justvoip.com (and other Betamax companies) give you lots of free minutes to call landlines in Romania. So you can get a local number from smartcall, then when someone wants to call you, they can call your smartcall number, let it ring until you see their number and you can call them back for free.

Have you actually tried to obtain one ? I tried a couple times to get one from Netmaster and after being passed between several people, most of them having no idea what I was talking about, they told me I have to be running a business in Romania, have a business bank account for wire payments, use a least X thousand minutes a month and so on. That was more than a year ago, maybe something has changed in the meantime.

Things have changed since they migrated their back-end systems to PortaOne. You may want to give them another try.

You don't need to call anyone to get a free number and was like that all the time, just go to the web site and fill up a form
»www.smartcall.ro/registration/ad···ount.php
About people from there calling your number for free that's another story because phone plans are different there.
They can take also free numbers in the same network and will be able to call you unlimited and free.

I was talking about the so called "green numbers" which start with 0800 and are free to call from the Romtelecom network.

I read something about that on the forum but I don't remember what's the status of green numbers. It wasn't interesting for me because somebody should pay for that
Romtelecom users usually have included minutes in their plan to call you.

How do you exactly suppose to buy credits once you open up an account/get a number? Their website looks like a Turkish bazaar where you can hardly figure out what's going on (and with a Security Certificate that doesn't match the site).
Can they be trusted?
Do you guys (RoCaller or Dan_Voip) have an account with them? if so, please share your experience with them.
Tks.
