installed 1 day but would like to change reciever to hd

finally, the guy be able to test my cable in the house and was able to install fine.
instead of installing on the side wood panel the did install on the roof.
the guy said that would be the best spot.
but finally got the pictures and really great looking picture quality.

i ordered hd reciever and standard reciever.
after i installed yesterday today i bought another hdtv small tv to replace my standard.
now i thought to have hd reciever also instead of standard and i request to do it and they asking me to pay $150 total just to replace standard since its been activated.

what would be my option at this point.

If that's what the Cable company offers then that's the cost. You can cancel service and go to DTV or DISH if you can.

i'm sorry misunderstood.
DTV finally installed yesterday as last time DTV tech told me that my existing cable is incompatible and old so tried to make holes in my house and which i stopped and cancelled.
yesterday another DTV tech came and installed fine in my existing cable no problem.
but i did order only hd reciever and standard reciever. but when i tried to switch standard to hd reciever as today i bought hdtv and want to use new one instead my old standard tv so tried to swap and called DTV today and they asked me to pay $150 to get hd reciever.
is that how it works?

Just for an HD receiver - not an HD DVR? Doesn't sound right.
You can go to Best Buy/Circuit City and get an HD receiver for $99. Something doesn't add up.

I had a similar situation to yours - here's how you solve it:

1) Go to Best Buy and "buy" an HD receiver. Remember, you wont actually "own" it, you're only leasing it. I think Costco also have them.

2) Take it home, connect it up and call in to activate it. Have the Receiver ID and Card ID for both receivers handy when you call.

3) D* will send you a box with return shipping label to return the "retired" receiver (it may take 2-3 weeks to get the box). Follow the instructions as to what to return and what not to return. Take it to a local FedEx if possible and get a receipt. Keep a copy of the tracking info showing when it was delivered just in case of any problems.

Also, I'd steer clear of buying on eBay. Too much chance of "buying" one that's stolen or still on a defaulted account.

False. This has been said a million times - the "cost" of the receiver, at any retail outlet or directly obtained from DirecTV, is the "lease acquisition fee". The link is freely available at the Best Buy website.

For my benefit, can you explain what it was that I posted that is false?

at myself.

My deepest apologies. I really need to not post when bleary-eyed. There's absolutely nothing wrong with your statement. When I initially read and posted - my fried brain skipped over one key word: won't.

Again - sorry about that.
