gallowsroad : I read that page prior to posting - it came up in Google.

I checked the drive firmware for all 5, and came up empty on known problems.

Changed the SATA cables on all of the drives (huge pain in the arse in an Antec P180 case!) and made sure they were firmly connected at both ends. I'm using cables with the tension connectors.

HDTach returns expected results with all drives - no problems accessing them, or getting them to spin up - they all appear during POST and there is no delay as the BIOS finds all the drives.

One drive (I cannot tell which SATA connector equates to JRAID1, if any do directly) was the source of the movie and also was the target drive for some downloads, but I do that all the time and have never had a problem before. The movie file was encoded in Divx, so it was pretty small, and the CPU was hardly busy.

Thanks for the help. Anything else anyone can think of is welcomed.
--
Ha ha haaaaaaa....ever get the feeling you've been cheated?

- John Lydon, last Sex Pistols show

yuutomo : Getting this error could mean that your hard disk controller is not working well. Check to see if you have difficulty accessing the hard disk (slow), or if the hard disk is having trouble powering up. Even though the controller is not working well you can still get all ok when running S.M.A.R.T. checks.

»support.microsoft.com/kb/154690
