"One New Message"

Ever since I downloaded MS Netframework 1.1, or whatever it is--an update I will never use--when my computer wakes up from the screensaver, I am directed to a logon screen even though I have only a single administrative account on the machine (i.e. the machine is not shared).

That matter does not bother me so much as the fact that a message appears under my login saying I have "1 unread e-mail." I check my e-mail and I have no new or unread items, and yes I have gone through all the folders and checked to see if I have an unread old e-mail and I don't.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Check outlook express to see if there is an unread e-mail there, probably the "Welcome to Outlook Express.." email

You can use TweakUI or a reg edit to remove the "new mail" message from the logon screen:

Get TweakUI:

Also, check to make sure you don't have the screensaver set to resume to the Welcome screen: Right click desktop>Properties>Screensaver tab>Make sure "On Resume, Display Welcome Screen" box is not checked.
