| [General] Slow DSL in my neigborhood, what gives?
My DSL connection was fine last Firday, but just yesterday DSL got slower. My speeds are worst than dialup.
I noticed my neighbor who is a fasraccess dsl customer is also experiencing slow internet. What could it be?
I've noticed a big box that looks like a DSLAM was installed like 1.5-2 mi away from my house. I've also seen alot of ATT technicians working on there and around my neighnorhood. Could it be a service upgrade?

| Well your 2nd and 3rd hops are incredibly high latency for the short distances they likely are and inside ATT/So to hand off to the outside world, were everything gets short again.
Some thing is going on and particularly if FA neighbors seeing it too, time to get on the phone call, HOLD..............., and hope... you get beyond the 1st tier morons, before you pull all your hair out.
EDIT OOPS.... didn't notice the second route.... did you find that slow too... those latencies aren't all that bad, but then again a ton of time outs.
But again if neighbor(s) (preferably plural) are seeing the same likely it is something between you all and the CO/regional ATM/net interface going wrong.

| reply to ja2007123 Ahhh the problem is back. Im irritated now. when I trace route google, the think won't even start..... I hope it gets fixed by tomorrow.
Could it be the rain? It has been raining alot lately. I have a Westell 6100 modem and a Dlink 615 router.
The Cable bill still needs to be signed by the Governor. So I don't think it's U-Verse. |

| ok , well the time outs are not concern. To acknowledge the 2nd posters comment on high letancy on the 2nd and 3rd hop. As some of us have said the router traffic when doing ack for traceroutes or ping request routers are setup to handle to those requests as super low priority therefore not giving you a correct gauge of real world letancy.
If you are experiencing slow downloads / high letancy that make you drop connections between requests then i would be concerned. |
