Rifleman : I have been fooling with my new machine and cme across something interesting. I was disappointed with the Phenom's speed.
I downloaded and ran CPUZ--which shows th processor's speed in real time. I noticed it was only running at half speed. 1100MHz instead of 2.2GHZ. I ran a benchmark or 2 and the speed of the CPU never went up to it's capability.
I opened control panel, performace options and then power settings. The setting was on power saver mode. Switching this to performance mode let the speed jump to it's 2.2GHZ. Benchmark scores doubled.
If you select "balanced mode"----then the CPU runs at 50 percent for half the time and 100 the other half. Benchmarks are in between.
I don't know if the PCs come from the factory with power settings like that or not---mine was open box. But if they do--I wonder how many buyers are only getting half the speed out of their new PCs?
I wonder if Intel systems are the same or not or if ACER or any other brand is similar?
Anyways--maybe this is a dumb thing but I didn't know and I have a few relatives with new HP machines.
I know a few here bought new ones too so thought I'd mention it.
