To clarify powercycling is when you pull the power out of the back of the modem (if you have an eMTA you need to remove the battery as well.) Some modems have "power" buttons on them that really only put the modem into a standby mode and do not actually reset the modem. |

The reset button on the rear will reset the modem and therefore flush its MAC address cache.
The only times that I have seen it necessary to "remove the battery" is when there is a hardware issue / defect with the reset button itself, and/or, its associated circuitry. |
