Severe Weather Possible AGAIN on Tuesday May 13 2008

There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and evening over a large part of the Southern Plains for all of Oklahoma, the eastern three-quarters of Texas, the western one-half of Arkansas and other adjacent areas of Louisiana.

At this time the primary threat appears to be hail of between quarter to half-dollar sized, and straight line winds.

On Wednesday this threat shifts to mainly Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. At that time there will be an increased risk of tornadoes and that area may see a moderate risk of severe thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Meanwhile… the Office of emergency Management in Northeastern Oklahoma, Southeastern Kansas, and Southwestern Missouri are preparing for the severe weather due to operations still in progress and the thought that there may still be ongoing efforts at that time for cleanup and removal of hazards such as heating fuel tanks, and other potentially dangerous chemicals and hazards in the area. Search and rescue efforts are still underway for a second night before these efforts end on Monday afternoon sometime if there are no more victims alive or deceased recovered from the recharge in the area.

Several issues came as a result of this and they’ve only served as reminders in severe weather safety. Many of the victims were in their cars and were not aware of the storm approaching due to their not listening to warnings issued several minutes before the tornado began to touch ground. This was especially true on Highway 43 in Missouri and in some parts of Oklahoma near Picher. In addition to this some people in Picher remained in their trailer homes despite the warnings issued or were not aware of the warnings for the same reasons as those in their cars.

In the event of a tornado just as in a car do NOT attempt to outride or outrun a tornado. If in a car get out of your vehicle – same in a trailer home. If you have a storm shelter underground or a safe-room, go to it if in a trailer home. Otherwise fallow the same rules as in a car. Look for a low-sot that isn’t prone to flooding like a depression in the ground or a ditch. Lay flat in the ditch or depression and cover your head and neck with your hands with your knees to the ground and your head bowed. Protect your head as much as possible and remain there until the storm has passed. If injured seek medical attention immediately.

Why is it that people who don't care about the weather are the first to bitch about it when it changes
