I filed for unemployment about 3 months ago. I never got a check in the mail then all of a sudden it showed up in the mailbox today. Do I throw it away because I'm currently employed now? |

| Couldn't hurt but benefits are only payable for the time that you claim. So if the OP does not claim a week, no payment is made. If the OP becomes unemployed w/in the next year, he/she simply completes another weeks claim starting with the date they were unemployed again. It's the same claim then. So the claim itself does not stop because the OP becomes employed again... it stops once the year ends. |

| reply to brianiscool ummm ... I you filed for unemployment and didn't get a check in a couple weeks and you didn't notice and call them ?? How many weeks were you unemployed for? In Ohio you must submit a claim each week, and you have a one week waiting period before you start to collect, if you return to work you MUST tell them. -- If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand. |

| There is a 1 week waiting period (which can be a little longer depending on what day of the week the claim is initiated) and it can easily take another week for the state to process the first payment. So it's typical that the first payment would be 2 weeks after a claim is filed.
Florida does not require that the person notify the state that they are employed... the person simply stops filing a weekly claim and the payments stop. The claim is still active for a year. |

| reply to brianiscool The most you are allowed to collect is an amount equal to 26 full weeks. You may claim these weeks any time you are unemployed during your benefit year. It is always good to inform the Unemployment office about your current job.You can also donate money to charity.

| reply to brianiscool well if you really want to be safe check with the unemployment office and if you are REALLY safe then get something in writing before cashing it.......
It wouldnt be good to get in serious trouble over what is probably a pretty small check.
I would rather be safe than sorry! |
