I'll be there - I've already confirmed online, and booked the day off work.
How are things working out, Rocky? Getting much support from NUPGE and Democracy Watch? How do the numbers look so far? |

| reply to R0CKY Thanks, done. Perhaps put a privacy disclaimer on that page to assure people you aren't collecting e-mails for SPAM purposes .
Everyone: remember this isn't just about throttling, it's about Net Neutrality, the future of the Internet in Canada, and preventing it's corporate ownership and control. Unless the government imposes Net Neutrality in Canada, this could easily have dire repercussions on future generations to come. It's important that we show we care about a free and innovative internet, be there and spread the word to all.
Ottawa has many IT companies, for many of them it might be in their best interest to actively participate. |

| reply to R0CKY hey, the 1st page (»www.netneutralityrally.ca/whatis2.asp) and the 2nd page (»www.netneutralityrally.ca/whatis4.asp) have the same title ("Confirm you are joining us on Parliament Hill").
Can you ask them to change the title of the 2nd one so it's clear that it's for transportation? |

| reply to R0CKY Quick little story I posted internally at TekSavvy to give a description of things as they are to be under the new regime of Internet Control, should we not voice our concerns...
The rally is in the name of Net Neutrality, which encompasses the throttling issue by virtue of a variety of reasons, hence why we are involved as we are. Net Neutrality is a more global issue in that it is about the protection of your online privacy/rights, as well as protecting you against online corporate profiling and choice.
Imagine this scenario: You get up in the morning and turn your computer on, Rogers or Bell greets you with your "favourite" sites then proceeds to suggest sites of interest (those who paid Rogers or Bell first). These sites would of course be preselected against your surfing habits (be-it religious, sexual, commercial). Now image, shortly after getting online, you get a call from a friend telling you to go and check out this joke on line, it's a little racy, but funny, but when you enter the web site address, it's not available... it's been blocked by your ISP as it doesn't fall within the "accepted" list of web sites. Welcome to the new Canadian Internet future!
.....starting to get the picture?
This is one of the various reasons we are heading to Ottawa on May 27th. This issue is about something the larger ISPs are trying to sneak right under everyone's noses... The removal/control of choice and online rights! -- TSI Rocky - TekSavvy Solutions Inc. |

| reply to R0CKY Great!... However....
1 - I don't think enough people are even aware that an issue exist. Don't want to be pesimistic, but I don't think it is going to accomplish much....
2 - Because of 1 above, this should have been organized along the lines of a marketing project.
3 - A great deal of people can't be there but would like to "do something". Yes, these are the people that have, most likely, already bugged their MPs', CRTC, and the remaining of the alphabet soup of government organizations. However, is there SOMETHING ELSE that we, the ones that won't be able to be there, CAN DO? |

| reply to globus999 There are many ways you can help, without attending the demonstration. First, find like-minded people in your area. Colleges and universities are a great place to start.
Hold your own demonstrations downtown or on campus. Get a petition going, and collect as many signatures as you can. Present it to your MP to take to Parliament, or your MPP to take to Queen's Park, or make a presentation to your city council and ask them to pass a resolution supporting Net Neutrality.
Above all, let people know they have a choice! Many people don't even realize there are alternatives for DSL, long distance, or home phone service. If you don't like what they are doing, don't give them any more money! |

| reply to globus999 Speaking of choices, case in point is the village of Lansdowne, ON. Lansdowne has one of those smaller legacy telephone companies (a SILEC in CRTC-speak). The monopoly of SILECs was completely revoked a while ago, and competition is now allowed.
The problem is that no-one appears to have told the good people of Lansdowne. This includes good ol' Lansdowne Tel, even though they were mandated to publish the Telecom Bill of Rights (and never did). Everyone thinks Lansdowne Tel still has a monopoly, and so there is no demand for new companies to enter the market.
TekSavvy appeared to be stumped when I tried to get my Dad DSL in Lansdowne - the people I talked to couldn't understand how such a place (in Ontario, but no Bell) existed. A little education on the ground can go a long way. |

There are plenty of places in Ontario and Quebec that are not served by Bell but rather by independents, etc. In the GTA alone, there are areas served exclusively by FCI. |
