At a metro exit would make more sense, easier for everybody to get to it. Of course, those usually have bus stops in front of them, so you're probably not allowed to park a greyhound bus there.]]></description>

If you upset a Canadian customer, he will quietly leave your store and never come back. He will tell 20 of his friends. Their point was that if a Canadian actually <b>does</b> complain, you can assume that many many more customers had quietly left.<br><br>I hope the 'powers that be' realize this, and factor the Canadian formula into whatever number actually show up on May 27.]]></description>

Since politicians are not very tek savvy, they need to have the frameowrk where those who know the technology can inform them of the issue in an intelligent way.<br><br>A protest isn't going to educate politicans on the real issues, it should sensitize them to the need to be educated.<br><br>For instance, the ISPs may say that they need to prioritize traffic. But we can counter that this is the job of individual users. They decide (via QoS flag) which traffic is to have priority and which doesn't. And the networks should be told to handle that and not mess with it.<br><br>If politicians are not educated about the Qos flag that can be set by users, they might just believe the big bad ISP's claims that they need to prioritize traffic.]]></description>

Do you really want to spend your whole life doing battle with ISPs who constantly try to find some way to screw customers by restricting some internet applications in favour of their own business ones or advertising revenus ? (like Rogers intercepting all your HTTP requests and inserting content in some of them).<br><br>ISPs must be seen to be telecommunications companies, not content providers. And they can't mess with our data and our packets.]]></description>

Lansdowne has one of those smaller legacy telephone companies (a SILEC in CRTC-speak).  The monopoly of SILECs was completely revoked a while ago, and competition is now allowed.<br><br>The problem is that no-one appears to have told the good people of Lansdowne.  This includes good ol' Lansdowne Tel, even though they were mandated to publish the Telecom Bill of Rights (and never did).  Everyone thinks Lansdowne Tel still has a monopoly, and so there is no demand for new companies to enter the market.<br><br>TekSavvy appeared to be stumped when I tried to get my Dad DSL in Lansdowne - the people I talked to couldn't understand how such a place (in Ontario, but no Bell) existed.  A little education on the ground can go a long way.]]></description>

Colleges and universities are a great place to start.<br><br>Hold your own demonstrations downtown or on campus.  Get a petition going, and collect as many signatures as you can.  Present it to your MP to take to Parliament, or your MPP to take to Queen's Park, or make a presentation to your city council and ask them to pass a resolution supporting Net Neutrality.<br><br>Above all, let people know they have a choice!  Many people don't even realize there are alternatives for DSL, long distance, or home phone service.  If you don't like what they are doing, don't give them any more money!]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/1206349"><b>R0CKY</b></A> : Quick little story I posted internally at TekSavvy to give a description of things as they are to be under the new regime of Internet Control, should we not voice our concerns...<br><br>The rally is in the name of Net Neutrality, which encompasses the throttling issue by virtue of a variety of reasons, hence why we are involved as we are.  Net Neutrality is a more global issue in that it is about the protection of your online privacy/rights, as well as protecting you against online corporate profiling and choice.<br><br>Imagine this scenario:  You get up in the morning and turn your computer on, Rogers or Bell greets you with your "favourite" sites then proceeds to suggest sites of interest (those who paid Rogers or Bell first).  These sites would of course be preselected against your surfing habits (be-it religious, sexual, commercial).  Now image, shortly after getting online, you get a call from a friend telling you to go and check out this joke on line, it's a little racy, but funny, but when you enter the web site address, it's not available... it's been blocked by your ISP as it doesn't fall within the "accepted" list of web sites.  Welcome to the new Canadian Internet future!<br><br>.....starting to get the picture?  <br><br>This is one of the various reasons we are heading to Ottawa on May 27th.  This issue is about something the larger ISPs are trying to sneak right under everyone's noses...
