Not sure if this is possible.
Wife has main Mac upstairs. Laptop downstairs. She wants both computers to have the same Entourage database.
The reason is she wants to be able to access files she has sent from both locations. So if she sends an email from the laptop, she wants to see that on her box upstairs.
I don't know if there is a way to force the database on a network drive they can both access. I've done this with Outlook on PC as long as only one person is logged in at a time. -- Watch what happens when I do this. |

| In general it's asking for trouble. I'd go with sporkme and say IMAP.
My wife has over 100 folders and a couple hundred thousand messages in her account (all IMAP), and it works well enough for her.. I doubt there are really "too many" to host online. |

| Tell that to a graphics designer with 100MB+ images.
It is not the number of folders or files, it is the size.
Trust me, I wish she would archive more. She is the type to break a computer just by looking at it. So I have to keep it simple.
Anyways, thank for the input from everyone. I'll just have to think of another way. -- Watch what happens when I do this. |

IMAP is really the #1 way to go on this. -- Lightning Bolt Technologies |

| reply to jasonfen Perhaps you could run an IMAP server locally? Then use something like fetchmail to download messages from the real server. That would work well, unless she had to read her mail from outside your home, which would be a challenge - though doable. -- »www.brambletonian.net - Brambleton, VA - First FTTH community in the US |

| reply to LBDSL It does not happen often but has on occasion. Normally, she does everything via FTP. However, sometimes you have no control over your client. Say there is a string of 10 revisions. It can get to a few hundred MB in a hurry.
I agree IMAP is an ideal solution. I may be able to swing it if I can get her to do some maintenance.
I had thought of a local server but want to keep this as simple as possible. Less boxes, heat, noise, etc. -- Watch what happens when I do this. |

I dedicate about 10GB of a 500GB HD to my IMAP users. There's around 500MB of email between 2 users at the moment. I use IMAP-SSL and webmail for outside connections. It works perfectly. |
