Clamshell iBook & OS9

Well, for now I've decided not to upgrade to OS X due to lack of RAM and such. So it's using OS9 right now. I was wondering how I can get the most out of this classic little OS. It has 10gb HD, a 366mhz processor & 64mb ram (for now). I love this thing SO much, but I just have no use for it.. Web browsing is painful and it freezes al ot.. I reinstalled OS 9 last night because a friend had a copy of the OS 9 CD. But I'm still at a loss. The battery is great though, I can get 4 hours out of it.

Any suggestions?

As suggested in another thread, you can try iCab 3.0.5 (classic).

My mom is still on OS 9 and web browsing is painful. I tried all the browsers and none worked well. This was last summer.

Well, way back when I was running a 6500/250 Mini-Tower and 9 it was freezing a lot with 64MB of RAM. I upgraded to 128MB and it was a different animal.

So, even if you can only get it up to 128 MB it will help so much. Of course If you get it to 512MB you can run OS X on it, pretty well.

Regards,
Mike

Don't misinform the guy. No version of OS X will run "well" on a 366mhz Mac, with 66mhz bus speed, 4200rpm hard disk.

I have a clamshell 300mhz that I threw a 256mb stick of ram in and loaded up 10.3. It does run a bit slow to start up but web browses great and with the airport card on I can get around 7 hours of battery life. I would suggest getting a 256mb stick of ram of ebay or somewhere and seeing how it does then.

Don't mis-quote me. Go look up "pretty" in a Thesaurus. You'll find that "pretty well", which is what I actually said is far from a glowing endorsement.
