Good you been in business for awhile and own(?) the dc, but unlimited bandwidth, why not have unmetered instead.

I had the question mark because I needed comfirmation it was true as I base my hosting decisions solely on a host that own a DC themselves.

Thanks for the support and kind words!

Yes, we own our own data center. As for "unlimited" vs. "unmetered," we're essentially more concerned with resource usage (and if that is having a negative impact on other users of the same shared server), than we are the amount of bandwidth a customer is using.

I fully understand wanting to make sure the company is legit before doing business with them but maybe I can help ease peoples feelings. Check out this page and tell me if there is someone you recognize: »www.hostrocket.com/team.html. That first person listed, Brendan Brader, is this very active person over in the VoIP forums: VTBrendan See Profile. I went for ViaTalk phone service because of Brendan's active involvement in the forums and if I hadn't already signed up for 1&1 before I knew about VT/HR, I would have most likely gone with HostRocket.

JoelC707:

The DSLR-VT forums are definitely a regular VT staff hangout. I spent some time there myself when I was working for VT-Tech.

I'd like to be around here much the way Brendan is over on the DSLR-VT forum. If there's anything I can help anyone with, or you folks have anymore questions about HostRocket, feel free to post 'em up, or PM me and I'll get back to you asap.

Thanks for the kind words, as always!

I've been with HostRocket for around 5 years now.

I've had some complaints with them, because well things happen from time to time, but I will say that I have no plans of leaving them because of their price and service. You just can't beat it.

This is absolutely not intended to be hostile; I'm a Viatalk customer and have appreciated Brendan's participation here for years. I'm just wondering how DSLR mods distinguish this kind of post and thread from ordinary forum spam?

I mean, I know the service is legitimate and the OP is well meaning, but there have been plenty of other "Great new xxxx service click here" posts that have been excised from various forums as spam...

I think the header in this forum does a great job explaining the situation, as well as the mods' stance on these kind of posts:
said by forum header :
Recommendations of web hosts by customers of the web host are welcome. Web hosting firms may announce good deals under these rules.

Ah so. Thanks! So my problem was writing before reading.

(Edit: By which I mean to say, sorry, never mind.)

The community here does a pretty good job of determining which hosts are legit and which ones are run by thirteen year olds on their mom's cable connection. The Webhosting Hall of Shame proves that.

The webhosting forum is one of the rare exceptions on the site where advertising is allowed - within the rules of course. The major caveat is that by doing so you open yourself up to criticism, both good and bad.

I must be out of it today, I just went to the hostrocket site and was checking things out, thought about giving them a trial for a few months. I never made the connection with Viatalk until I browsed to their customer support forums, and I'm glad I did -- tickets staying open for weeks or months, downtime, and no response anywhere.

I'll give them a wide berth.

Really, it seems you knew that back in April.

I shouldn't have said I "never knew" -- it slipped my mind and I was reminded when I saw their customer forums mixed together on the same page.

Lots of hosting companies out there....
