The line from the NID that I have been using is CAT5 about fifty feet long. It has been in for about eight years. The technician didn't like my soldered connections so he replaced them some marine quality connectors. I read the description on the procedure and noticed a possible problem being the surge protector. I didn't even know there was a DSL rated protector. I have a power conditioner in the same closet as the DSL adaptor. I can plug it into it to see if it improves the situation. The last time I looked at the power conditioner the input voltage was 126 and out was 119. My power isn't the best. The UPS on the computer will switch on from time to time. I just took two more outages while typing. The latest stats are:

It hasn't rained in weeks if not months around here. I lost my POTS line to squirrels a while ago and they switched me to a new pair. I had problems before the switch, but they've seemed to have increases since. I've had the techs (by calling 611) out several times and they tell me the line is fine. One was a splicer who was going to make up a new pair before he tested the existing one and found it good. I'll post to the other forum. Thanks for all your help.

Notice how your latest attenuation readings (146 Current LATN 52.0 31.0) jumped from what they had been. Unless AT&T's contractors are conditioning the loops in your area and messed up yours, then you have a problem. Your SNR margin (145 Current SNRM 1.0 8.0) has cratered as a result of the the attenuation jump.

It hasn't been raining in your area has it? A lot of times whenever we see jumping attenuation readings (up or down) and big drops in SNR margins and/or train down sync speeds, it is a result of grounded or crossed pairs.

Is your POTS line quiet? If not call 611 and report the noises to them. Otherwise it is time to start a Trouble thread in AT&T Direct: »/forum/sbcdirect. Post a link there to this thread so the techs can see what has happened prior to the current conditions.

When I was having problems with a new router I called SBC and a second or third level support guy said my line was too noisy and dropped my download speed to 2.0. Since then, my pair went bad, got a new one, and replaced my eight year old Alcatel 1000 adapter with a Motorola 2210. I've been taking a lot of line drops but the techs say my line is clean. At any rate, do the stats attached look good enough to go back to 3.0. Might as well get everything I'm paying for.
