|  [OS X] Streaming 720p/1080i/avi/mp4 & converted MKV!
I just purchased a new iMac 24inch model and starting adding 720mkv, 1080imkv,avi,wmvhd and 1080p mkv. I know have a libary of hd movies and was looking how to get them on my 1080p HD SXRD sony 50inch tv. I own a Ps3 and was reading up on how to stream from the mac to the ps3, I cam across alot of information what worked and what didn't work and the fact that I had to look into converting the mkv files so the Ps3 can see them. I also came across alot of no answers on how to do it properly.
I found a great piece of software called MEDIALINK for the mac and took the chance and bought it for only $20.00 dollars, a small investment. I downloaded it and installed. Now before I did this I set the Ps3 to wireless mode and Medialink found the Ps3 and the only button you have to puch to make medialink stream to your Ps3 is start!!!! Bingo it was working!!!!!!
I began testing normal transfers like pictures,music and low bitrate video's,movies and all worked perfectly!!! now remember this is over the wireless link. I then tried a 720p movie and it played but was stalling somewhat not much but some, but hey it was streaming and picture was outstanding, not 1080p but close. I then decided to run a ethernet cable from the mac to my D-Link Gamer and re-tested the 720p and bingo smooth as silk and the picture is FU*KI*NG outstanding!!!!
Now the next step, taking a mkv movie in 720p or 1080i, Medialink will not work with 1080p as of yet. The Ps3 will not see a mkv file so what to do. I purchased VisualHub and converted a 720p mkv movie and converted to mp4 and when I checked the Ps3, it showed up under my movie folder and it played smooth and clear as silk in 720p!!!! I am tested a 1080i short show in mkv and I am converting it as I wright this to mp4!!!
This is what it is all about no more dvd's or for that matter bluray when maybe not bluray but it is dam close iin picture quailty!!! Here are some links to check it out and some pic's pf my set-up!! Enjoy and if you have any questions pm and I will try to help!!

Markham, ON | I did look at handbrake but cam across alot of concerns with the software and the fact that it is more designed for apple tv and apple tv in canada is now where near the same as it is in the states. |

clubs: | I wouldn't say it is geared toward Apple TV but it only does DVD's. For one file format to anther (besides DVD) I use Visual Hub. |

| That is what I was coming across also was that it was geared to dvd. The software maker of handbrake does seem to push it with the apple tv platform. I have pasted the dvd stage and looking at h264,mkv and bluray. You can not go wrong when converting with visualhub. |
