Pakapab : You should download and install HP FapMon on your computer. You will have real time usage stats. And I beg to differ with you, but if your modem is off, I have it on good authority that your Fap bucket will NOT refill. As for your trouble, I have had similar problems in the past, so I downloaded HP Fap mon to use as proof that I was right and they were wrong if it were to happen again.

Pak

Xtreme2damax : I found that is not true and just a spoonfed response their clueless indian tech support claims.

My bucket fills regardless of whether the modem is off or on, as it's controlled at the NOC and not the modem itself.

What happened was the usage page claimed I downloaded a 409 MB file between 1PM - 2PM which would trigger a fap.....if I actually had downloaded anything at all.

Problem is, I did absolutely no downloading, I was the only one on the system at the time (Router access logs prove that) and had nothing running that would consume bandwidth, yet I managed to download 409 MB in an hour which is even impossible for me during the fap free time.

During the fap free time it usually takes a little under or two hours to download about 400 MB, it simply can't be done in an hour with my speed.

Something in their weird wacky system is triggering phantom downloads at certain times.

This would periodically happen when we were on the "home" plan, however this is the first time it's happened since we upgraded t o the pro-plus plan a few months ago.

However I am out of the penalty box for now, but still needless to say I wasn't very happy.

Pakapab : How often do you power down your modem? Your modem needs to be on 24/7. If not the FAP bucket will not refill when you are not browsing. You should also if you have not already download and install a program called HN Fapmon. You can find links in this forum to the download site and lots of helpful info for this nifty little utility. It is a must have for all HughesNet users in my book.

anon : This actually happened to us the other day too, around the same time between 1-2pm. The usage page showed that I went over the limit despite the fact that nobody was using the internet or downloading anything. I didnt bother calling hughesnet about it knowing the response I'd get, "We can not control the FAP, you went over your daily limit wait 24 hours blah blah blah". Of course, its always our fault we know nothing.

anon : Take a look at Sprint or Verizon EVDO. I didn't know it was in my area until I looked at their websites. Verizon has a FAP limit but Sprint does not. The cost is similar. The speeds are usually better than HughesNet, and the latency is much lower. I had the Pro Plus plan as well, but it just didn't perform well for me. I bought a Sprint Mobile modem, tried it out for a week, and then decided to switch.

Xtreme2damax : As in their Bandwidth Shaping/Limiting/Usage and monitoring system. Today an ugly fap reared it's ugly face to our connection, a fap we didn't deserve.

Their screwed up usage software is claiming we used all of our bandwidth in an hour. Mind you this is impossible and I have provided an explanation as to why below:

We have the Pro-Plus plan, we have barely been using the system for the past few days except for browsing some light websites.

Well last night from 12AM to this morning at 11AM the modem remained off. The modem was turned on at a little after 11AM this morning.

From that time up until I was wrongfully fap'd all I was doing was browsing some light websites (A couple websites), at a little after 1PM I noticed the internet was running painfully slow and checked the usage page just as a precaution.

Sure enough we were fap'd for no reason at all and hughes screwed up system is showing we used 409 MB in an hour.

I was the only one on and the only one who's PC was on, however I wasn't downloading anything or doing anything bandwidth intensive and was only browsing a couple websites/forums and checking replies that had been posted.

I've checked router access logs which showed I was the only one on, not to mention or wireless is secure and encrypted.

I also checked to make sure I had nothing running such as updates or any downloads in the background.

After everything else was ruled out, I figured hughes screwed up system decided to throw a fap my way just for the spite of it.

Needless to say, I'm not very happy or pleased and wish true broadband would make it's way to my area. We've gone through enough bull**** with hughes the past year we've had them to fill the grand canyon.
