UPS Batteries

Any suggestions for buying replacement UPS batteries? I know I can buy direct from APC or from CDW but I was hoping to find something a little cheaper.

I personally dont think its wise to go cheap on UPS batteries. I assume your UPS systems are backing up critical systems. It's worth the investment to make sure your critical systems are protected. Think of it as insurance.

I get my replacement batteries from Interstate Battery. They've got great service and are just down the street. The 10% corp. discount helps out, too.

There's like, 3 companies in the whole wide world making these things. So they're pretty much going to be the same.

I have used »batterywholesale.com in the past and been very happy.

I ordered a 12V 7AH and they were out of stock, so they shipped me a 12V 8AH instead. No questions asked, no delaying my order, and they did not ask me to pay the difference in price. I was totally impressed. The battery is still working great 20 months later.

Like someone else said, there are only so many companies making the batteries so I figured there has to be a place that can offer a better price than CDW.

Definitely not looking to jeopardize equipment to save a few dollars, but it never hurts to shop around.

Thanks for the links!

What about a Batteries Plus? If you have one in your area it might be worth a look to see how much they run there, or even at Fry's. Batteries aren't exactly light weight so I can imagine the shipping cost is pretty up there so buying it locally may be a little cheaper, or if nothing else you can get it right away.

I use Batteries Plus. They always have the ones I need in stock and they are local so I can pick up the batteries instead of paying for shipping.

For starters, what type of UPS are you looking for? Make/Model/Brand? That'll help with suggesting the best route to go.

I used batterywholesale also. HAd good experience so far.

I haven't seen anything special about the original APC batteries. They have been whatever brand APC happened to get at the time with a really sticky APC label over the original label. In one case the exact same battery.

I went with an APC battery in one where it was a pair of batteries with a connector and a cable just cause i didn't want to redo the assembly. Could have just got the replacement battery and reused the cable tho.

Ditto on the upgrade here too. They used to have a selection but it now seems to be one replacement available per size. On the second round of battery replacements on some of the units after several years on the replacement batteries with no problems.

Watch the freight when ordering, but it will be a killer from anyone.

Just peel off the APC label and order the battery you need.

That's who I use. Saves quite a bit of money and I get them same day instead of paying for overnight shipping. Some assembly may be required, but that only takes a few minutes. I have never had a problem with their batteries.

Here's a tip: The last time I was there they said it is possible to set up a business account. The savings were fairly substantial. I seem to think I got 4 batteries for the price of 3 or something along those lines. I believe Batteries Plus was recently bought by another company, so policies may have changed. Still, even their normal prices are good.

We have an account with Batteries Plus as well. Their offices are across the street too, which is nice considering we go through batteries for all kinds of UPS's and devices all the time.
