phone number lookup for DSL

Is there a website on the internet that will tell me what kind of service is offered in Ontario at any phone number I give it?

Apparently just across the street from Square One in Mississauga companies can't even get DSL because they are 4km from the CO... If find this very odd as most of the building have been there for years!

@look.ca

You can plug in the phone numbers at Sympatico's website to get a general idea on the sign up page where you check availabilty...

However, in this case, if you are talking about some of the high rises near Square One, the problem may not be the distance from the CO or remote as is probably the case, but rather building policies involving crappy door-buzzer/intercom systems tied into the phone lines without any provision for proper DSL filtering.

In those cases while one building may not offer DSL at all, the one right next door to it may well have a superb connection.

If you're looking to find an apartment in that area I'd suggest talking to the property managers to find out if the situation does indeed involve some ancient, incompatible intercom system or not.

It's not an apartment building, its looks like a town house complex but instead of homes it's all offices. The weird thing there are two Bell boxes with what looks like remotes attached to the side of them. The owner currently only get 1.5Meg DSL which he's lucky to get 1.5Meg at all.

I am just very surprised at the fact the apartment buildings get 6Meg DSL, and cable 10Meg but literally across the road (2 lane road) and you get nothing, and also this would be considered the heart of Mississauga, I could understand if he was out further in the boonies. (sigh)

Speaking from the 'boonies'... I am .5Km from a remote, but my wires take over a 5Km sight-seeing tour to get there.

You can't predict available service speeds based on a phone number, you just have to install it and see what you get!
Your ISP & Bell will work with you to get the best speed from your line, but they can't promise a desirable outcome.

It is also possible that you are not even connected to that remote. Bell does not always transfer existing CO-connected users to a new remote. If you are not getting at least 3Mb/s or having other problems, or if are not sure to what you are connected, ask your ISP to check if there's a shorter/better path available.

Been there, done that.

The Bell tech showed me where the remote was located and told me that's where I was connected. When it was noted that I had ~64dB downstream attenuation, they traced the line out to a major road, then back again to the newly installed remote. I am over 10Km straight-line from the CO; not likely that I'm connected there.

In rural Ottawa, the infrastructure is falling way behind the rate of development. The new developments are all high-end homes, yet Bell, Rogers et. al. still think we're all farmers and hermits because that's what their 1956 map says.

That is so sad.
Here, at the out side of the city limits, Sympatico customer's are getting a 2-3 MB dsl connection for light speed.
There's a new DSLAM 2 miles down the road for a Call Centre, but Lite-speed here getting 2MB or better...?
